The first may be the most unassuming of the group, but it is a rare mechanical corkscrew; similar example can be found on pg. 201 World Class Corkscrews "Louis Kummer's German Registered Design 263,041 issued August 23, 1905. There is a hidden spring inside the barrel and a slotted locking mechanism. Marked D.R.G.M. 263041 on one side of the frame and METEOR on the other." Next is a Sterling silver roundlet by Gorham, followed by an Anri music box with danging girl, a very rare pistol knife corkscrew with ivory handle, large carved boars tusk corkscrew depicting a running wild boar, a rare Dutch 18th century Sterling pocket corkscrew depicting a face, a beautifully carved ivory bust of a child's head overlayed with Sterling silver, finally a Jacques Perille DIAMANT corkscrew. We went to a car museum, a few art museums, the Water Gardens as well as a couple antique malls. Amazingly, I was able to find a corkscrew worth buying; a very rare Anri music box with dancing girl.

]]><![CDATA[March Finds]]>Sun, 03 May 2026 20:39:51 GMThttps://www.corkscrewcollectors.com/blog/march-findsLots of great finds in March starting with a massive boxed John Hasselbring set, a carved ivory gentleman with stag horn head, a buffalo horn corkscrew with Sterling endcap, a rare Argentinian single lever, Sterling silver roundlet, folding silver medicine spoon, beautifully carved ivory Goram T screw with floral silver endcaps, rare Dutch pocket corkscrew, another Sterling silver roundlet, and an unusual stag horn handle corkscrew; in addition to the unusual handle is the unusual inscription on the Silver end caps (one marked with some initials, the other with RANCHO MAVAVI APRIL, 21 1904 MEXICO. Possibly an old hunting trophy.

]]><![CDATA[New displays coming soon.]]>Fri, 27 Mar 2026 02:33:06 GMThttps://www.corkscrewcollectors.com/blog/new-displays-coming-soonI decided to order extra frames for display boards since its always frustrating when you want more and they're no longer available. So, at the moment, I currently have 16 frames for expansion. I don't know where they will go, but they will be there when I'm ready to frame more corkscrews.  At least one new framed display is in the planning stages and should be done soon.  Also, I will post a detailed article on how I make these framed displays as I've received this question dozens of times over the years.

  1. Intricately carved dragon corkscrew with Sterling silver tail.
  2. An impressive and intriguing piece of exceptional historic interest. This rare and interesting four pillar rack and pinion corkscrew was made circa 1831 from materials previously used to build Old London Bridge in 1176. Same provenance as the most expensive corkscrew ever sold at auction.

Four markings on the collar
  • 1176 - the date construction started on Old London Bridge
  • PC -  Peter de Colechurch, architect/priest appointed by Henry II to oversee the construction of Old London Bridge. Built to atone for the murder of Thomas Becket ("Will no-one rid me of this turbulent priest?")
  • Royal Orb crossed -  the symbol of The Brethren of The Bridge. One of the world's oldest corporate logos, the Bridge Mark today refers to Bridge House Estates https://www.towerbridge.org.uk/about-us/city-bridge-foundation-history
  • City of London shield

  • 1176 construction starts on Old London Bridge 
  • 1831 Old London Bridge is dismantled, materials are taken up 
  • 1831 (circa) J. Ovenston of 72 Great Titchfield Street, London, cabinetmaker and upholsterer, sells relics from these materials
  • 2014 26 November, Ovenston's descendent sells British Osborne patent corkscrew at Reeman Dansie for a world record price
  • 2015 29 July, Peter Borrett, Corkscrews Online, has been contacted by Ovenston's descendent about the four pillar corkscrew 
  • 2015 29 September, the four pillar corkscrew is sold at Reeman Dansie Auctioneers; my husband places the winning bid
